HGV Tachographs
At the heart of most operators’ systems to ensure regulatory compliance are the arrangements relating to the management of the hours of work that their drivers do and the way in which those duties are recorded. The instrument of recording is of course the humble tachograph – a piece of kit that can trip up even the most experienced operator! Tachograph infringements make up a very significant proportion of all road transport prosecutions every year, and can lead to restrictions being placed on your operating licence or in the worst-case revocation of the licence.
Protecting yourself and your business against the consequences of regulatory infringement, especially prosecution and/or call up to Public Inquiry should be high on any operator’s list of priorities. Understanding your tachograph data, and if your drivers are using the mode switches correctly so that their work and hours are recorded accurately, and that those records are then stored correctly is key to achieving this.
If you need any advice on this aspect of compliance call us now on 01279 818280. Pellys Transport & Regulatory Law solicitors have over 35 plus years of representing and advising hauliers and HGV operators on just such matters and are here to help.
